Information of the ENC in Japan

The Hydrographic and Oceanographic Department,Japan Coast Guard(HOD,JCG) has been publishing the Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) since 1995. The ENC is made based on IHO standard S-57 Edition 3.1 (S-57,E3.1) which was published by IHO in November 2000. You can get the document of this standard from the International Hydrographic Bureau(IHB) in Monaco.

The ENC is composed by some size's file which is enclosed by latitude and longitude. This file is called Cell. And, the Cell has different size on navigational purpose and on using paper charts.
The S-57,E3.1 has 6 different Cells which are from 1st level to 6th level. Each country can decide size of Cell on making ENC from some scale's paper charts freely.

We are adopting Cell's table which is as follows.
