International Naming Authority for undersea feature names “The General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans” (GEBCO), a joint Project of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO, works for the handling of geographical names and the standardization of undersea feature names internationally. Sub-Committee on Undersea Feature Names (SCUFN) , one of the sub-committees under GEBCO, is the designated authority for all matters concerning undersea feature names in the world ocean, appropriate for use on GEBCO graphical and digital products. One of their function is a selection of undersea feature names which have been submitted to the SCUFN by individuals, agencies and organizations involved in marine research or hydrography, etc. All names selected by SCUFN will be added to the international and worldwide digital gazetteer “the IHO-IOC GEBCO Gazetteer of Undersea Feature Names, IHO publication B-8”.
